Using Architectures to Make Decisions via MIDA2S with SA Encyclopedias
Steve Ring, MITRE
An enterprise architecture offers tangible benefits if organizations and agencies make their architecture actionable (i.e., use their architectures via analytics) to provide value to decision makers and leaders in achieving overall business/mission goals and objectives. One such way of making architectures actionable is to mine them to ensure consistent and accurate information with which to make informed decisions. The MITRE Integrated Decision Architecture & Analysis System (MIDA2S) provides an analytic environment and serves as an Architects Assistant across multiple encyclopedias to browse, drill, search, discover, trace, inventory, learn, filter and report architecture content, relationships, and structure.

Transitioning OMG UPDM to UAF
Leonard F. Levine, Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), OMG
The presentation outlines the development of the Unified Profile for DoDAF and MODAF (UPDM), its basis on SysML, and its evolution into the Unified Architecture Framework (UAF) at the Object Management Group. The OMG is a private standards development organization. UPDM 2.1 is a mandated standard registered in the DoD IT standards registry. Use of compliant tools are required in development of enterprise and systems architectures in DoD acquisition programs.

System Architect & Tableau – Direct reporting of SQL Tables in BI tool
Kyle Kenney, Catalyst Inc
I am an INCOSE Style Systems Engineer, not a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (no real coding experience) – so it has been a long and winding journey to publishing.  I had been cranking out MS Excel reports from SA Report Generator for a decade on projects that were too small or short sighted to invest in SA Publisher or a proper website and decided to take action!  In the SA User Group meeting, I presented an SA Report Generator to VBA approach to publishing a while back – I was wrong – there is an better solution.  This presentation outlines some very specific steps that can be taken to make the data available in native SQL Server tables – today(ish)!

Success story, Commercial EA - Supporting an IT Transformation with Architecture for an Insurance Merger
Jamie Knowles, Lengo
Lengo were asked to support a client, in the insurance industry, to build an architecture practice to govern a $300M CAD IT Transformation to deliver a unified business after a merger. Using a Lengo adaptation of ArchiMate in Unicom System we developed a centre of excellence that provided three key functions: Strategic Planning, Enterprise Architecture Governance and Solution Architecture. This is an overview of the approach, challenges and successes we enjoyed.

Portfolio Management with Focal Point and System Architect
Jim Ethington, UNICOM Systems
UNICOM Focal Point is a popular, web-based portfolio management tool and ‘sister’ product to System Architect, with a data and OSLC integration between the two. Focal Point enables you to do project portfolio analysis, demand and delivery management, IT portfolio management, and product management. The integration with System Architect enables you to do a thorough analysis of EA information against non-architectural data points such as costs, development bandwidth, or survey results. In this demonstration, Jim Ethington will show to do portfolio analysis in Focal Point, including how to analyze data from System Architect, and move decisions from Focal Point back into SA.

System Architect What’s New
Lou Varveris, UNICOM Systems
In this presentation, Lou Varveris will provide part presentation and part demo of new features to System Architect in the last 3 UNICOM releases, with value proposition for each feature.

System Architect Roadmap
Lou Varveris UNICOM Systems
In this presentation, Lou Varveris will provide the roadmap for the System Architect toolsuite. It will also be an open discussion for client feedback and enhancement requests.
